The Gate House
This house is Grade II listed and dates back to 1850. It is believed to have originally been the gate house to officers’ accommodation for the Dover Castle garrison, who were quartered in the splendid Victoria Crescent. The Gate House underwent complete refurbishment in 2011/12 to transform into high quality holiday accommodation.
This cottage is perfect for romantic getaways from honeymoons and special anniversaries or birthdays, to an amazing place to stay for history enthusiasts. It is also perfect for families as children love the experience of staying in their own little castle.
The Gate House offers accommodation over 2 floors. Downstairs is the living area with cosy gas wood burner, TV, DVD and double sofa bed. There is a fully equipped kitchen with washing machine and tumble dryer plus the dining area. The first floor offers the master bedroom with romantic canopied bed beneath exposed beams. There is an adjacent dressing room within the turret and a bathroom with full-size bath and with hand-held shower attachment. There is a small outdoor area with garden seating.
It stands part way up a hill, close to Dover Castle and handy for the town itself with its full range of amenities. Free roadside parking is available. Bed linen and towels are included in the price. Up to 2 dogs welcome for £25 per dog per booking.
Dover has plenty to offer visitors including Dover Castle, the wartime tunnels, easy access for trips to France and Belgium as well as walks along the famous White Cliffs. Castles at Walmer and Deal; the medieval town of Sandwich; many beautiful sandy beaches around the east Kent coastline are all easily accessible and well worth a visit. Canterbury is just a short drive away with fantastic shopping as well as the historic cathedral.
