Short Breaks with Social Distancing

Short Breaks with Social Distancing

We are all keen to getaway and enjoy a few days away from those 4 walls.  There is certainly no better place to explore than the UK.  From coasts to cities and valleys and dales.  The UK has everything you could need for a short break with social distancing.

WalkingWalkies on Dartmoor for all

Walking – hiking national trails.  There are many apps and maps available to help with exploring, many of our self-catering holiday homes have local walking maps and walking routes available.  Check with the property owner before you arrive and see if there are any particular routes that are recommended. Local knowledge can be hugely valuable in helping to find the best place to park as well as lesser known routes with hidden gems.

Open water swimming, water parks, sea swimming.  With the indoor swimming pools closed for so long many have developed a passion for open water swimming.  A brief early morning dip before breakfast has often been said to get the circulation going and be a great part of a healthy lifestyle.

A dip in the sea for a swim when on your short breakThe waters around the UK can be quite cold, maybe a shorty wetsuit would be a good investment even in summer if you are planning to regularly swim for any length of time.  Many seaside resorts have them available for hire too.

Eco-houses provide an opportunity to have a short break that is sustainable and helps to reduce any carbon footprint.  Eco-houses usually have a renewable heating source and use eco-friendly products wherever possible.  Many are in rural locations and aim to be at one with nature and ideal if you want a short break with social distancing.

Water Sports

Kayaking – single kayaks are a great group activity that can be enjoyed with social distancing.  Enjoy exploring the UK coasts and waterways.  Hire a kayak if you have been before or be part of an organised group.

Stand up paddle boarding has become immensely popular over the past few years.  I have seen paddle boarding with dogs, Yoga on paddle boards and event paddle board networking events.   Being big floating platforms it can be quite easy to maintain a social distance and still enjoy others company.

Site Seeing

If a slower pace of life is more your thing or you would prefer to social distance from your car then there are some fantastic sites to drive and see the sites.  Cheddar Gorge is Somerset is just one of those that is hugely impressive even from a car. The gorge and its features are just like a scene from Jurassic Park.

Quirky AccommodationPerched on the edge of the cliff is Sally Port Cottage and Lighthouse

If you like to look out to sea and spend time on drawing or painting a clifftop lighthouse keepers cottage might be just the ticket.  Peace, tranquillity and close to nature.  Observe the massive power of the sea from a safe distance and watch the wildlife going about its business.  Dramatic coastal features are an artists dream and can take you away from any stresses and worries, which after all, is what a holiday is about!
